Our American Dream... July 03, 2007

Today has been another fun day already.  The alarm clock went off at 5am and when I rolled over to see why Chris hadn't turned it off yet, I noticed he was already awake.  (Crazy man!)  So, I layed there for a minute, decided I really did want to get up, rolled over to turn the alarm off, and got out of bed to go find Chris.  He had already packed Noah's bag so we snuck into Noah's nursery, snatched him up, and away we went in the car.
Afew years ago, when we lived near BYU, we made it a family tradition to go to their annual 4th of July Hot Air Balloon Festival.  It starts at 6...yeah...in the morning...It always felt early to be there awake with all these other people  and so much going on.  Driving over an hour to be there now, it feels even earlier - but it's worth it.  That's where we went this morning.  It was something we had looked forward to sharing with our child for years.  Noah's reaction was so much fun to watch.  He was fascinated by all of the colorful balloons and all of the people working to blow them up.  It really is beautiful.  We counted 23 balloons on the field this morning.  By the time all the balloons are standing up you feel like you are walking around in billowy-walled, colorful caves because the balloons stand so close they touch each other.  It's magical.  I think Noah liked it as much as we do, although he was a bit afraid of the flames that shoot into the balloons to make them rise - they're loud and hot.  He kept saying, "Wow...whoa!" in a tiny awestruck voice.  It was wonderful!
